Introducing Santa Maria Sal
Holidays in Santa Maria will instantly melt away the stresses and pressure of everyday life. In fact, there is even a local saying in the islands, which goes “Cape Verde – no stress”. Sitting pretty on Sal's southern snow-white shores, if Santa Maria was any more laid-back it would be horizontal.
Santa Maria is surrounded by a striking moon-like landscape; this charming resort oozes colourful character with a charismatic blend of bright Caribbean-style houses and aromatic sea food restaurants. Santa Maria has everything you need to relax and unwind. From the minute you set eyes on this delightful town, its mismatched charm weaves its magic spell. An eclectic mix of the old and the modern - you're often not sure whether you've stumbled on a boutique or a bar until you poke your head in to find a friendly local smile welcoming you in.
Stroll down to the dazzling strip of white sand beach of Santa Maria and it's just as chilled out here. It's true; you won't quite be alone here but these superb beaches still offer plenty of places to relax in peace. Pad along its sweep of silvery sands and there are a handful of plush beach hotels dotted along the coast. Pop into the Morabeza Beach Bar and enjoy a relaxing lunch. With over eight kilometres of beach though, much of the coastline here is totally deserted.
If you fancy a change of scene and pace then Santa Maria won't disappoint on this score either. Head for the tiny capital of traditional Espargos, which is jam-packed with art shops and music stores. Clap eyes on the gorgeous Blue Eye Lagoon and dive down into a mystical underwater cavern. Or simply take things easy with a cruise around the island. You will find everything you could wish for in Santa Maria.
